Northeast Community Round Table | Fall 2017

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
ENCOMPASS PARTNERSHIPS | 3851 54 AVE NE

REGISTER HERE

You are invited to our next Round Table on October 25 to continue the round table conversations on working better, smarter, and together in Calgary's vibrant Northeast communities.

At the last Round Table in March we reviewed and updated the assets, gaps, and emerging opportunities we see in the communities we work in. We then identified six key issues and did some work together in breakout groups to brainstorm possible solutions. It was an encouraging time of meeting other like-minded people and seeing how we could go further together in building resiliency in the people and communities of Northeast Calgary.

We are excited to re-gather this fall to continue the conversation and move towards tangible outcomes that leverage each others' resources, networks, and expertise to create sustainable change. At Encompass Partnerships, we believe that like-minded people working together can create greater impact and add value to each other's organization.

Sometimes the best ideas come from outside; so to facilitate our conversation, we'll take a look at a few clips from a documentary called Poverty, Inc. that "examines the rise of charity as a multi-billion dollar poverty industry." Looking at a global perspective on poverty reduction strategies might give us a new perspective on our work locally. Perhaps you'll find yourself wrestling with similar frustrations of broken social/economic/political systems. Perhaps you'll find encouragement in how you already approach your work. Perhaps you'll ask questions you've never asked before. And together, perhaps we'll find new ways of solving old problems.

At Encompass Partnerships, we've also been reflecting on our role as host and facilitator of these Community Round Tables. Based on your feedback, they have been a positive experience with potential to fill a coordination gap at the systems level. We'd like to propose an idea for coordination going forward and seek your input.

We hope many of you can make it out again, and please feel free to forward this registration link to other agencies or organizations in the Northeast (east of Deerfoot and north of 16th Ave) who would be a valuable voice in this ongoing conversation.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY ROUND TABLE

In the social service sector, we are famously about ACTION. However, at times we need to ensure we are doing adequate DIAGNOSIS to tie our actions to actual or emerging needs. Further, do we need to address those needs alone? There is power in collaboration to build and strengthen a community.

  • Diagnose some of the critical needs of our community; those that are being addressed and areas where gaps exist.
  • Brainstorm potential solutions.
  • Discover agencies, initiatives and resources already in place.
  • Explore potential collaborations and partnerships.
  • Dream about what could be in 5-10 years.

Encompass Partnerships is hosting this round table. Relatively new to the NE, we established ourselves here in July 2014. As a collaborative, we focus on bringing together individuals, agencies, and churches that help those living on the margins of society, including newcomers to Canada, the sexually exploited, and aboriginal youth. Our NE facility houses nine partners with available space accessible to other agencies who share our heart for the marginalized in our city.

This event is by invitation to agencies, faith communities, and associations that currently serve or provide services to the public. We hope that this event brings together NE communities and leads to potential collaboration and partnerships.

Encompass Partnerships and SIM Canada have partnered to help churches and radical communities of Christ followers become more embedded in their neighbourhoods.

The greatest and most intimate opportunities we have for gospel impact is in our own communities and neighbourhoods. When we take a more integrated posture within our neighbourhoods and recapture our role in restoring the world to God's original intentions, the good news of Jesus begins to impact our society in tangible ways.

In an increasingly diverse and eclectic society, we need to let the Gospel take shape in the unique contexts of the neighbourhoods outside of our church buildings.

Partners in Community Building Round Table

Partners in Community Building Round Table

REGISTER BELOW BY MARCH 17

In the social service sector, we are famously about ACTION.  However at times we need to ensure we are doing adequate DIAGNOSIS to tie our actions to actual or emergent needs.  Further, do we need to address those needs alone?  There is power in collaboration to build and strengthen a community.

You are invited to be part of a Round Table on March 22 to:

  • Diagnose some of the critical needs of our community; those that are being addressed and areas where gaps exist.
  • Brainstorm potential solutions.
  • Discover agencies, initiatives and resources already in place.
  • Explore potential collaborations and partnerships.
  • Dream about what could be in 5-10 years.

Encompass Partnerships is hosting this round table.  Relatively new to the NE, we established ourselves here in July 2014.  As a collaborative, we focus on bringing together individuals, agencies and churches that help those living on the margins of society, including immigrants, the sexually exploited, aboriginal youth etc. Our NE facility houses eleven partners with available space accessible to other agencies who share our heart for the marginalized of our city.

This event is not open to the public but rather is by invitation to agencies, faith communities and associations that currently serve or provide services to the public. We hope that this event brings together NE communities and leads to potential collaboration and partnerships.

If you know of service entities that work in the NE sector (we are focusing on East of Deerfoot and North of 16th Ave), who would benefit from being at the round table, please direct them to our website to register.

If you have any questions or for more information, please contact Encompass' executive director, Harv Matchullis (403.970.4148).
